techsbox vs MyGadgetRepairs

MyGadgetRepairs, usually written MGR, is a repair shop system billed in pounds. It has a genuinely free tier and three separate monthly meters above it. techsbox starts at $15/mo, counts nothing, and does not charge per technician.

We are not going to convert their prices for you

MGR publishes in pounds and we publish in dollars. Any dollar figure we printed next to theirs would be an exchange rate we picked on the day we wrote this, and it would be wrong by the time you read it. So their numbers stay in pounds and ours stay in dollars. If the price is close enough that the rate decides it, look it up today rather than trusting a comparison page, ours included.

“Not published” means we did not find it stated on their own pages, so we do not state it either. It is not a claim that the feature is missing.

What it costs as you hire

MGR does not sell seats. Each tier holds a fixed number of user accounts per location: one on the free plan, 2 on Regular at GBP 30/mo, 10 on Enterprise at GBP 60/mo, and their top plan is the one with no stated headcount. So hiring does not add a line to your invoice, it moves you to a different plan, and the steps are uneven.

Read from their pricing page on 2026-09-04. The first row is their free plan, which is a real offer and is capped at 25 tickets and invoices a month. Every figure is the monthly price against our monthly price: their Enterprise and Premium tiers are cheaper on annual billing, at GBP 54/mo and GBP 243/mo respectively on annual billing, and Regular is the one plan where the yearly price is the same as the monthly one. Our own annual discount is left out for the same reason.

The core difference: they meter the work, we do not

Three meters, and any one of them can move you up a tier

Their free and Regular plans each publish three separate monthly allowances: tickets and invoices, products and services, and field jobs. Regular covers 75 of each. That is the part worth reading twice, because they are counted separately and you only need to cross one. A shop doing sixty repairs a month is comfortably inside the ticket allowance and can still be over the catalogue limit, because 75 products and services is a shelf, not a month's work. techsbox has no ticket cap, no invoice cap, no parts cap and nothing that counts up and resets.

Their free tier is real, and we do not have one like it

Free for life, one user, 25 tickets and invoices a month, and no card. If you fix things at weekends or you are testing whether this is a business yet, that is a genuinely good offer and we are not going to talk you out of it. What we have is a 14 day trial with no card required, and then a price. Ours is the better deal at the point where the repairs are paying your rent; theirs is the better deal before that.

The eleventh person is a plan change, not a seat

Enterprise holds 10 user accounts per location at GBP 60/mo. Their next published plan is Premium at GBP 270/mo, and their page marks its user count "Unlimited" with a footnote reading "fair usage applies". So the eleventh person on the payroll is not a per-seat charge you can budget for, it is a step to their top tier. On techsbox headcount is not part of the price at all: the same $49/mo covers your second technician and your twentieth.

They publish all four prices, and that deserves saying

A lot of this market puts a Request pricing button where the number should be. MGR prints four tiers, the user count for each and the monthly allowances, on a public page you can read without booking a demo. We are not going to pretend otherwise to win a row in a table.

They do things we do not

A point of sale, purchase orders, staff rotas, loyalty and prepaid customer balances, and field jobs as a first class thing rather than an afterthought. If your shop needs a till and a shift planner, that is a real reason to pick them and it is not a footnote.

What we do that a metered plan does not

A public shop page on your own subdomain, a customer portal for checking a repair without ringing you, online payment on an invoice, and search across your own work history. And a bill that does not change in a busy month, which is the whole argument: your best month should not be the one that costs you more.

When MyGadgetRepairs is the right choice

If you bill in pounds, pick them. Being invoiced in your own currency by a company in your own timezone is worth more than any row in the table above, and no pricing argument beats not paying a conversion fee every month. The same goes if you are just starting and 25 tickets a month is more than you do: free for life is free for life. And if you run a till, a rota and a loyalty scheme alongside the bench, they cover ground we do not. The case for techsbox is the shop where repair volume is going up and you would rather not think about it: no ticket cap, no catalogue cap, no per technician charge, and a bill that stays the same in December.

Nothing here counts up and resets.

From $15/mo a month. No credit card required to start, no ticket cap, and no charge per technician when you grow.
